Island Magic

From Leonard Bernstein's Trouble In Tahiti...

But I think this is an amazing island. Expensive as all breadfruit, but well worth the trip. So, we survived the last eleven days, ten of which were sea days. Ugh. Have I ever mentioned how I really don't like sea days? One or two is fine, but four or five in a row? No thanks.

Had an amazing moment today, sitting out by the pool watching the sun set. There was this gorgeous green island mountain, with an orange and red sunset above it. Of course, my camera was in my cabin. But it made me really grateful to be alive, to be sober, and to have an amazing job that I love.

But with all that said, I am incredibly homesick. I miss goodberries, the cats, the kids, the shows, mom and dad, amy and bill and gaby, mark and denise and kelcey, the folks in california, amanda and gerrie and the whole kouri clan. oreo cookies. chocolate milk. making an egg white omelette at four in the morning because i wanted to. Michael. Blondie. Sasha. Paul and Wanda. Stable ground. Peggy.

Ah well. Poor me, right? As I am about to go ashore for a gaufre au chocolat in Papeete, Tahiti. Someone's gotta do it, right? Might as well be me.

It's been interesting so far this contract. I feel like an invisible person, and I will explain that more in later blog posts. Wanted to get some pics posted of Tahiti. Maybe some of Honolulu.

Manzanillo...

Good day yesterday in Manzanillo, Mexico. I really have no idea where it is, or why we even bothered to stop there on a Sunday, but it was interesting to see a very small fishing village and its Sunday traditions, complete with bells pealing and dancing in the streets... okay, maybe not dancing in the streets, but I did see some dancers changing clothes in the streets. Doesn't that count?

Enjoy the pics. Manzanillo is the self-proclaimed sail fishing capital of the Pacific, as is known from the HUGE sailfish sculpture on the shore. It was cool. Very blue. Mucho azul.

Several of our cast members are experiencing the wrath of Montezuma, most likely from the amount of tequila they imbibed in Acapulco. Glad it wasn't me!!!

We opened Moments to Remember tonight, after having an 8am rehearsal. LONG day, to say the least. What's weird is that my costume changes that were so easy on the Sun Princess are now giving me a major headache on the Dawn. Didn't make one twice now, and it is very frustrating to have my song cue come up and me not be ready in costume. Close, but not close enough. The show went on, though, and I managed to sing my way out of the costume looking like poo poo ca ca tee tee wah wah.

Enjoy the pics.

I am very excited about day after tomorrow! I get to see my nieces, whom I have not sen pretty much since they were born, or close after. Tate, Eden, Mary, Gregory and Kelly are all coming to see the ship and me in Long Beach. Should be exciting. I have been scavenging the store rooms for souvenirs...

more of Acapulco

Ah! Capulco!

Fun and interesting day today. Didn't sleep too well last night, as I was up doing some writing of my new play, which is a good thing...

Today was Alissa's birthday, and the gang went to some bar/resort to drink and sun. I decided to go for a walk instead, and I am so glad I did. I saw some amazing things. Got to reuse my Spanish education and chatted with some of the locals, which was interesting trying to describe what a "patch" is. I am collecting patches this cruise, so I can put them on one of the Aussie sweatshirts I have. Thought it would be cool and somewhat inexpensive. And, no, they don't have "parchas" in Acapulco. No any that say Mexico or Acapulco on them anyway.

So, enjoy the pics. Interesting twist of fate happening on board here. One of the new headliners on board is Jack Walker, who was my second when i worked for Holland America. It is great to see him, and I am looking forwar dto seeing his show and finding out more about how he got to do what it is he does.

The Barbados Bug that bit me...

Has caused me to have a horrible allergic reaction, and made me break out into large itchy red blotches covering most of my body. This is horrible! I itch like crazy, and there isn't much I can do about it. Went to the onboard Doctor, who is really cool (handsome) and he said it was something planigiopolidia-itis, or some other big name I can't pronounce. Basically, an allergic reaction to a bug bite. Darned Barbados.

We open Save the Last Dance tonight. Should be good. One of my favorite shows. Dress rehearsal was pretty much a disaster, so the show should be awesome.

Went through the Panama Canal today. I think it was my eighth or ninth time, and I am still in awe over it.

Pics are of Curacao and the Canal. More later...
